Buenos días a todos,
tras de unos meses de vacaciones después del Boss Sounds Weekend, Straighten
Up! vuelve a la carga con las pilas renovadas, maletas con discos nuevos y
nuevo local con mejor sonido y distribución: The Real UNDERGROUND, en la
calle Granada del Penedés 19-21, a la cual se puede acceder por la calle
Balmes a la altura Travessera de Gracia. Una ubicación genial ara un nuevo
local que esperemos os guste. Las maletas cargadas con el Boss Reggae,
Rocksteady y Ska de Straighten Up! volverán a Barcelona después de haberse
"ido de vacaciones" por Italia, Galicia y Reino Unido. ¿Cuando? El sábado 26
de septiembre, de 23:00 a 03:00 en la sala UNDERGROUND (Granada del Penedés
19-21), como siempre, por solo 3 euros.
¡Os esperamos a todos para disfrutar del ambiente que se respiró durante el
Boss Sounds Weekend a finales de mayo! Subiremos a nuestro myspace las fotos

Newsletter feb. 2009 – Reggae Recipe spring edition 28 march feat. Flight 404 (Barcelona)

Hallo everybody!

As most of already might know, we’ve started 2009 with a collaboration with Antwerp’s Bar Mondial which allowed us to bring you The One Droppers from Milan (check our MySpace page for pictures of their Be-Ne tour). The joint effort has proved to be really successful and therefore there is no reason not to go on!

This time we’re gonna bring you Flight 404, an eight piece from Barcelona, active since 2003, that has just brought out their debut LP ‘Trip To Moon’.

High altitude early reggae in the Upsetters/Rudies/Joe Gibbs line. Original compositions delivered with great musicianship and a slightly jazzy touch.

They will play in Antwerp on friday 27 march (Bar Mondial) and in Amsterdam on saturday 28, needless to say in our beloved Maloe Melo (Lijnbaansgracht 163).

Selectors for the latter party will be resident Flavio Bacardi and Mr. Moodisc from Utrecht.

And -how could we forget about it?- plenty of savoury Caribbean snacks for the early birds (and maybe even for the late…). Last time we highlighted the passion for cornmeal of both Jamaicans and (Northern) Italians. What will it be this time, with a Catalonian band visiting?

Nuestra sala habitual, situada a tan sólo 3 minutes a pie de Plaça Espanya, y a 10 minutos del centro de la ciudad. Podéis llegar a la sala en metro (linea 1 -roja- y linea 3 -verde-), en bus (enviadnos un mail si os interesa recibir información sobre autobuses), en Ferrocarril o en taxi. Los taxis salen muy baratos desde el centro de la ciudad (Radio taxi: 933033033)

ESTRAPERLO CLUB DEL RITME, Pol. Industrial Can Ribó, C/Isidre Nonell 9, Badalona

La sala para la allnightes del sábado está situada en Badalona, a 20 minutos del centro de la ciudad de Barcelona. La mejor forma de llegar es en tren, que sale en Plaça Catalunya y bajar en la estación de Montgat. La sala está a 10 minutos caminando de la estación de tren. Tened en cuenta que el último tren sale de Plaça Catalunya a las 23:05.

Aunque recomendamos coger el tren, tambien se puede llegar en metro bajando en la estación Pep Ventura (última parada de la linea 2-amarilla-, no L4 como dice el flyer!). Desde allí podéis coger un bus (N9, N2, N11, B29, B30) que os dejará a 150 metros de la sala o pedir un taxi (Badalona Radio Taxi: 93.225.00.00 o los telefonos que aparecen en el flyer).

También podéis coger un taxi desde Barcelona, el trayecto cuesta mas o menos 20 eur.

Os recomendamos cenar en la zona de la discoteca, hay bastantes bares y restaurantes por allí.

Os recomendamos que reservéis hotel en el centro de Barcelona. Buena comunicación con las dos salas, multitud de restaurantes y bares, además de tiendas de discos y de ropa de segunda mano. 36 años, originario de Lyon (FR). Cofundador del VaVaVoom Soul Club junto a mi buen amigo Ady Lupton. Rescubrí la música Northern Soul, el R&B, el Latin, el Ska, el Jazz, el Acid Jazz & el Funk desde la escena mod de los últimos 80’s. A mediados de los 90’s me fui a vivir a Londres y comencé a coleccionar Rare Soul. He asistido a algunas de las mejores Soul Nights, All-nighters & Soul Weekenders en UK (100 Club, Cleethorpes, Capitol Soul Club, Life Line, Prestatyn, Ritz…). Llevo coleccionando (Great Oldies, Newies, Instrumentals, Unknowns & Classics, principalmente 60’s & algo 70’s) durante bastante tiempo pero intent conservar el mismo entusiasmo por la MUSICA SOUL DE CALIDAD.

Durante toda mi vida he tenido una casi enfermiza pasión por la música. Comencé a comprar discos a la edad de 6 años y desde entonces he estado explorando mis horizontes musicales. Durante mi adolescencia ya me gustaba la música Soul, pero no fue hasta 1997 cuando a la edad de 16 años una colega se compró accidentalmente una compi de Northern Soul, y esto fue lo que realmente me enganchó a los sonidos uptempo del Soul de los 60s y 70s. Sonaba tan gritón y rudo como el garaje americano de los 60s que escuchaba, así que la conexión fue inmediata.

Empecé a colección 45s de Soul, R&B y Funk en
1999 y desde entonces he pinchado y organizado fiestas en mi ciudad, Malmoe (Suecia). Durante los últimos 2 años he organizado con bastante éxito el CLUB FUNCTION junto a mis amigos Helena, Jonte y Joppe. Nuestra política musical es una mezcla ecléctica de Northern Soul, Funk, Modern Soul, Underground Disco y Boogie.

Ricard Prieto (Barcelona, 1966) es un insobornable fan de la música afroamericana. Tras años y años de disfrutar numerosas sesiones de música Soul, Jazz y Funk en sus más variadas vertientes, un día decidió traer algunos discos de casa y ponerse a pincharlos delante de sus amigos. Desde inicios de los 90 hasta hoy, Ricard ha participado como DJ en los principales Soul weekenders por toda la península: Soul4Real (Bilbao), Black Apocalypse (Asturias), Floorshaker (Barcelona), Say It Loud (Santiago), etc. Por otra parte, fue co-editor del añorado fanzine “Soul Time”, además de colaborador ocasional en programas de radio y prensa musical. Para esta edición en Movin’On, su selección abrazará como siempre un amplio espectro, desde estricto 70s & 80s Soul, underground Disco, o NY soulful House..

During my entire life I’ve had an almost unhealthy passion for music. I started buying records at the age of 6 and since then I have consistently been deepening and broadening my musical horizons. During my formative teens I always liked soul music, but it wasn’t until 1997 at the age of 16 when a friend of mine pretty much by accident got ahold of a “northern soul” compilation CD, that I seriously caught the bug for obscure old 60s and 70s uptempo soul. It sounded just as gritty and unpolished as the american 60s garage rock
that I loved so I felt an immediate connection.

I started to seriously collect soul, rhythm & blues and funk 45s in
1999 and since then I have been DJing and organizing club events here in my hometown of Malmoe, Sweden. During the past 2 years I’ve run the successful CLUB FUNCTION together with my friends Helena, Jonte and Joppe. Our music policy is an eclectic mix of pounding, uptempo northern soul, funk, modern soul, underground disco and boogie.

RICARD PRIETO (Barcelona)

Ricard Prieto (Barcelona 1966) is an incorruptible afroamericam music fan. After years and years enjoying lots of Soul, Jazz and Funk sessions in a variety of styles, one day he decided to bring some records from home and play a set in front of his friends. Since the early 90s, Ricard take part as DJ in the main Soul weekenders all over the country, Soul4Real (Bilbao), Black Apocalypse (Gijon, Asturias), Floorshaker (Barcelona) or Say It Loud (Santiago), etc. In other respects, he was too co-editor of the remembered fanzine “Soul Time”, as well occassional contributor to music mags and radio performings. In this Movin’On, his selection will reach as usual a wide spectrum, from straight 70s & 80s Soul to underground Disco or NY Soulful house.

recordem que el proper 7 de febrer teniu una nova cita amb els millors sons jamaicans de mitjans dels 60s a principis dels 70s a Straighten Up!, aquest cop amb Sir Lord Tennant, cantant de The Thorpedians:

“Skinhead original de L´Hospitalet del Llobregat, he pinchado por diversos puntos de Catalunya como el Studio1-tgn, La Boite-lle, La Mirona-gir,asi como en diversas fiestas en Barcelona o scooters runs como el de Sant Pol, tambien era habitual de las fiestas Young Soul Rebels(zgz) encargandome de los sonidos jamaicanos. Formo parte del colectivo skinhead de DJ´s, IRGIN SOLDIERS. Como Thorpedians(banda de skinhead reggae y 2tone barcelonesa) hemos dado mas de 60 conciertos, pasando por diversos paises como Alemania, Francia o Belgica y compartiendo escenario con gente de la talla de Alton Ellis(rip), Derrick Morgan o The Aggrolites.

Tambien soy la persona que se esconde detras de Top Of The Class Productions(junto con Jordi “Undertaker”), responsables de mas de 20 producciones(conciertos y fiestas) durante el 2008.
