SR VARO (Valencia)

The Congo Kid – Slap Happy
Versatones – Bila
Andre Williams – Mean Jean
Lester Young – Down to the river
Young Jessie – Lulabelle

CLAUDIA QUEENBEE (UK)

Compass – That’s enough for me (True Love)
Darrow Fletcher – What have i got now (Jacklyn)
Gospel Comforters – Yes God is real (Marcs)
Banny Price – You love me pretty baby (Jewel)
Cookie Jackson – Do you still love me (Progress)
The Newports – Dixie Women (Kent)
Frank Kinsel – Satisfaction (Sunday)
Joe Bataan – Gipsy Woman (Fania)
David Coleman – Drown my heart (Barry!)
Tony Middleton – To the ends of the earth (MGM)

Barney Kessel – It Ain’t Necessarily So (Reprise, LP)
Little Johnny Taylor – Somewhere Down The Line (Galaxy)
Ray Agee – The Monkey On My Back (Shirley)
Eddie Bo – I Found A Little Girl (At Last)
The Chitlins – Sugar Woman (Pala)
Jimmy McGriff – That’s What I Feel (Sue)
Casey And His Group – Comin’ Home Baby (Polydor)
The Combinations – Bump Ball! (RCA Victor)
J.C. Heard – J.C.’s Grit Gitter (Sir-Rah)
The Pazant Brothers – Groovin’ (RCA)

RESIDENT DJs: Jordi Duro & Cristina Alonso

Selectors:

SR VARO (Valencia)
It can’t be a coincidence that one single band (Dr. Explosion) has spawned three of the best djs and activists of the spanish 60’s scene. Varo, although we all know him as a drummer and co-organizer of the Funtastic Dracula Carnival, is a DJ who doesn’t like to talk about himself –as a matter of fact, he didn’t want to send a bio- but he always leaves the dancefloor exhausted. He brings awesome R’n’B, Latin, R’n’R and Early Soul records in his box, but labels don’t matter much to him…what matters is the result: We are going to have a great time!

CLAUDIA QUEENBEE (UK)
Native of the beautiful Itria Valley in southern east Italy, I’ve started djing and collecting vinyls roughly 10 years ago. As a truly gipsy woman I’ve been living in a bunch of different cities such as Rome Milan and most recently London, where I’ve been spinning records for various soul/r’n’b/mod events organised by friends or myself. My taste in music is quite wide and diverse but speaking of digging records I’m deeply passionate in rhythm and blues, funk and early Jamaican grooves. In the occasion of the Boiler I’ll select tunes from the early 60’s to the mid 70’s in a merge of R’n’B, soulful and Latin. This is gonna be my first djset in Spain, hope you’ll enjoy the music and I’m also looking forward for an original plate of pimientos and jamón with the Barça gang!

GENÍS WORKSONG (Granollers)
My name is Genís and i’ve been collecting black music for a while now. I’m from Granollers, a little town near Barcelona, where nothing really happens except, maybe, our monthly club ‘pilé on 45’, which i run with my friends Carlos Cactus and Hèctor Gimeno. I’ve had the chance to have fun deejaying in places such as Summertime (L’Ampolla), Mo’Pilé, the Aplec Modernista del Vallès, Club Castizo 60s (Madrid) and i once deejayed a little bit at the Boiler on a very special night. Nowadays i also run a night called COOL FINGERS with Ricard Prieto, where we try to play the jazzier side of records with both rhythm and soul. In my sets i like to mix a bit of everything that i passionately love: R&B, Soul, Latin/Brazil, early Funk and never forgetting a dose of dancefloor Jazz. Don’t expect big money in 7’’ format, there will only be good records to dance to and enjoy. Coming back to the Boiler will be like going back to Montserrat or Mecca
for believers: i’ll be able to be behind the decks after all these years wearing out my soles on the dancefloor (despite my first attempt on that crazy night). So, not much else to add, except we will have a great time on both sides of the dj booth. As King Africa said: ‘a bailarrrrrr!!!!!!
