Call for the 2nd Annual International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners, July 25, 2016

From https://nycantifa.wordpress.com:

In the year since the first July 25th International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners in 2015, there has been a disturbing increase of Far Right activity worldwide. Every day brings news of some new wave of reaction—in the name of nationalism and security—which demonizes refugees and immigrants, stokes hatred for Muslims, and attacks LGBTQ and other oppressed groups fighting for their liberation and their very lives.

The July 25 International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners originated in 2014 as the Day of Solidarity with Jock Palfreeman, an Australian man serving a 20-year sentence in Bulgaria for defending two Romani men from an attack by fascist football hooligans. In 2015, we expanded our solidarity efforts to include all antifascist prisoners across the globe. There were a variety of actions around the world: groups held benefit concerts, movie nights, talks, raffles, banner drops, letter-writings, and literature distribution on the street and at a punk festival. Others did photo-ops and videos, and issued statements of solidarity.

We call on anti-fascists worldwide to act in solidarity with antifascist prisoners! Consider having an event or dedicating an action to them. They are in there for us, and we are out here for them!

No Pasaran!
Until All Are Free!

Against Nazis and Repression – Freedom for Valentin

11694982_538623256289592_4347849442200488395_n
It was the third time that the police broke a door of a comrades shared flat on the 1st of July 2015. Like the last two times it were masked SEC Officials who stormed into the apartment. But different to the last incidents it wasn‘t the apartments furnishing that they were searching in order to find evidence; this time they came to take a comrade on the basis of an arrest warrant with them.
His name is Valentin.

He is accused of having taken part in the violent clashes at „Verdener Eck“ after the football match between SV Werder Bremen and the HSV. That day Nazi Hooligans from Bremen attacked a group of antifascist Ultras. The clash ended in violent confrontations between the two groups. Even though the events took place after a football match, and football fans are affected, this is not about football riots! The altercation had a political background. The hooligans attacked the Ultras since they believed them to be left winged antifascists.
Since his arrest Valentin is in custody awaiting trial. At a press conference on July 2nd the police presented him to be the „prime suspect“ in the case. He is accused of aggravated battery and severe breach of the peace (schwerer Landfriedensbruch).

The police made clear that Valentin is going to be held as an example against political violence.
This situation sucks! We stand in solidarity with our comrade, friend and brother Valentin. We will do everything to stand by his side and give him all the support he needs.

To financially strenghten his back we set up a donation account. Contribute to the donations, since this is about all of us. Let him feel your solidarity by sending him letters. We‘re going to set up a mailbox and will let you know its address in the next days. Please keep in mind that the police can and will read these messages (sender address, content, etc)
To constantly keep you updated on Valentins situation we set up a blog on which we will inform you about any new developments.
Out of hate and anger and resistance!

BOB COSBY (UK)

Bob Cosby grew up listening to Soul music and became a fan of northern Soul at an early age , he travelled to Blackpool Mecca and the famous Torch all nighters in Stoke on Trent. He started his own Soul night in the early eighties at The Black Horse in his hometown of Leighton Buzzard in which there was a large contingent of Soul & Jazz-Funk fans, the Tuesday night event ran for 6 six years. Bob also appeared at the Caister Soul Weekends in the Eighties and at the Latin Jazz themed Mambo Madness nights in London alongside Chris Bangs and Gilles Peterson, when The Caister weekend adopted a newer format of dance, House & Garage Cosby decided he wanted to start his own weekender on a smaller format and Soul-Essence was born, he teamed up with Gavin Page and they are still running the event in Great Yarmouth today.
Soul- Essence is at the cutting edge of Real Soul Music and the DJ team includes Soul Sam,Steve Guarnori, Steve Plumb, Mike Charlton as well as many guests over the years the next event is the 33rd Weekender and there is now a partnership with Soul4Real in Bilbao at which he appears at each October. JADD (Madrid)

I’m Jadd and Soul music is my passion. I can’t think of a better way to introduce myself. That’s why I keep collecting records, sharing them in my sessions and travelling to events with the same enthusiasm as ever. As a dj I have been a resident for ten years at the Soulfood Sessions in Marula café in my home town of Madrid, and recently I have set tongues wagging with my partners in theJazzin Club collective, which I’ve been a part of since the 90s. Recently I’ve taken my record box to Soul Essence (UK), Soul Shakers (Germany), Swiss Soul Weekender (Swiss), Stockholm Soul Weekender (Sweden), Soul4Real (Bilbao-Spain) and SoulsUnited (UK) and I’m very happy to be going back a fourth time to the Movin’ On booth. This is one of my favourite clubs and a landmark on the European circuit, which I often attend as a punter. It’s a real honour. I hope to see you on 4th April. These ten records will be in my box:

Mark LaRoi Cummings – Struggling together – Setting Sun

KIMI HIRO (Bande à part, London)

Music has always been a big part of my life, buying records as a teenager and DJing now for over 10 years. I’ve grown up with ska/rocksteady in my country, Japan, but since moving to London I became more interested in a wider variety of black music and collecting originals. My passion goes to 50s and 60s RnB and this is what I usually play. I run my own night in London, Band a Part, with my DJ mate Ian O’Donoghue (aka Cousin Benson) for almost 7 years. We are fortunate to have had guest DJ’s coming from several parts of the world (Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Japan, USA) to join our night, as well as many UK DJs (sorry, we haven’t had anyone from Spain yet, but maybe soon!). I have been inspired by each and single DJ I’ve had the pleasure to dj with.

Joe Liggins – Going Back To New Orleans
Mable Scott – Fool Burro
Otis Blackwell – Let The Daddy Hold You
Lee Parker – Boy Meets Girl
Ray Richards – Minneap’lis Minnesota

Hi, I’m Alfonso from Barcelona. For me it’s a big big pleasure attending  to my favourite club on a different perspective. Usually punter, it’ll be my 2nd time at the decks. Many thanks Cris & Jordi! During the last ten years I’ve been lucky enough of being called to spin my records on most of the spanish rallies and clubs, also a few times abroad in Italy, Germany, Greece, France… I’ll try to contribute to that unique atmosphere the Boiler has, with my usual recipe: r&b, soul, boogaloo, funky soul, etc., mixing well known biggies with new hopefully refreshing goodies… Come dance with me!

TIM OTT-JONES (RnB123, London)

Tim Ott-Jones is a collector of soul and RnB from the 1950s and 1960s, and has set himself the mission to uncover unknown and sometimes obscure treasures to share them with like minded people. He has been djing for a few years now and together with Alan H runs RnB123 where he is one of the resident DJs. Tim has DJed in the past at various clubs in London – Le Beat Bespoke, Bande à Part, Sidewinder, Don’t Drop Out, Soul Attic, just to name a few and also played at No Way Out (Manchester), For Dancers Only (Dublin), Let’s Dance (Oxford), Shoot your cuffs (Munich) and Move on Up (Trieste).

HENRIK AKERBERG (The Pacemaker, Stockholm)

I started collecting 50s and 60s records by a coincident when I was asked to DJ at the local Tiki bar (Tiki Room) in Stockholm 9 years ago. Back then, I played Hawaiian, Jungle Exotica, Surf, Latin and Calypso. Nowadays I collect mainly Rare R&B, Soul and Blues Dancers, even though the “early days” have flavored my taste in these genres. I still play records at Tiki Room regularly but my main focus is on my 1 year old club, The Pacemaker, that I run with my mate Marcus Hjoberg. We have started to invite DJs from abroad and will continue to do this after Christmas. The last years I have been lucky to be invited to various club nights in Europe, such as the Jukebox Jam (London), Band è Part (London), Soulful Turino (Turin – Italy) and Jester Wild (Jena – Germany).

Mel Smith – Chicken Backs
